Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department

Bringing recovery coaching into a hospital is one of the most exciting and challenging applications of the field.

It is also one of the most important places for recovery coaches to engage with those suffering from substance use disorder.

The value of recovery coaches in emergency department of hospitals is well established in many U.S. states.

Good science is showing the efficacy of using recovery coaches in a hospital setting.

Emergency Departments now recognize that Recovery Coaches can make a difference in this high-paced setting by connecting those that are present in the emergency department to pathways of recovery that can be sustained in the long-term.

Recovery Coaching continues to gain momentum throughout the U.S. and has caught the attention of Canadian policy makers, and with good reason.  Recovery Coaches can, and do, connect people to long term and sustained recovery.

Because of this, more and more, coaches are being utilized in a variety of settings, including doctors offices, police stations, drug courts, treatment centers, and most notably Emergency Departments.

The need for skilled coaches who can easily adapt and work in a fast-paced emergency department setting is growing exponentially.

Still Here is implementing the gold standard of recovery coach training in the emergency department, first created by CCAR in Hartford, Connecticut, where they now serve 23 hospitals.

Still Here has added the important Canadian perspective that will translate well into our hospital system setting.
